Per The Saint Cornelius Handbook
During Physical Education classes students are required to be in P. E. uniform. Navy blue shorts/sweatpants & heather tee shirt with SCS emblem and white sport socks is the official school gym uniform. This uniform must be purchased through Flynn & O’Hara.
CYO sports, spirit wear and other athletic attire are not worn in place of the official gym uniform – no exceptions.
On school Mass days, students wear their school uniform and may change into their gym uniform if they are scheduled for gym that particular day.
During the winter months, regulation sweats may be worn. or the optional regulation track suit styles for grades 5-8. Students in Grades 5-8 also have the option of the straight leg cotton sweat pant with sweatshirt if not wearing the track style.
Students in Grades PK4-4 will wear the sweatshirt and sweatpants.
White, or non-fluorescent colored, non-marking, non-skid sneakers with white/black laces are the only colored sneakers allowed for P.E. Sneakers MUST have laces. No slip-on sneakers. Velcro sneakers must be worn for PK & K students.
A student requesting to be excused from PE class must submit a written notification from a parent with a valid explanation. Should this exemption be necessary for more than one (1) class, a doctor’s note must be submitted to the school office.
Health will continue to be taught by our Health/PE Teacher during the year. Students may wear their gym uniforms on days that they have Health.

Physical Education Grading Scale
Each student will earn a Sportsmanship and a Participation grade per unit. The grades will range from 1-4 with 4 being the highest.
Sportsmanship
To earn a 4 on the grading scale the student:
- Follows all instructions and rules.
- Cheers teammates and give respect to opponents.
-Congratulates All and finds specific positive feedback to give.
To earn a 3 on the grading scale the student:
-Follow game rules and instructions except for 1 or 2 mistakes.
-Uses positive language.
-Accepts outcomes.
-Acknowledges opponents' efforts.
To earn a 2 on the grading scale the student:
-Does not follow instructions and rules initially until corrected.
-Arguing or shouting at others (Negative talk).
-Has difficulty accepting outcome.
To earn a 1 on the grading scale the student:
-Does not follow activity rules and instructions even when reminded.
-Argues with teammates, opponents and/or teacher.
-Refuses to accept the outcome of games.
-Cheats
Participation
To earn a 4 on the grading scale the student:
-Remains active and engaged in all activities during entire class. High effort and on task.
-Stops at appropriate time (stops on the whistle).
-Answers questions.
-Includes others.
To earn a 3 on the grading scale the student:
-Active and engaged during class requiring less than 2 reminders.
-Stops quickly to the whistle.
-Answers most questions.
-Includes other (if needed).
To earn a 2 on the grading scale the student:
-Is reluctant/slow to be active or participate.
-Needs more than 2 reminders to follow directions.
-Slow to stop or continues talking.
-Only includes same people.
To earn a 1 on the grading scale the student:
-Do not participate unless told to.
-Does not answer questions.
-Do not include others.
